This morning I seriously considered calling my mother-in-law and telling her that I've been craving broccoli and spinach and lean protein and running five miles every morning. I would've really impressed her with my incredible health-conscious attitude and my love for all things green. I could've bragged about how I'm going through my pregnancy eating healthy snacks and doing moderate exercise, all while working full-time and keeping a perfectly clean house. I really considered it … but it all would've been a lie.
The truth is, I've spent the last four days doing everything I can to resist my intense cravings for hot dogs while wallowing in my own exhaustion on the couch with a sink full of dirty dishes and four loads of laundry sitting on the floor. And isn't that the way it's supposed to be? I mean, c'mon, healthy food and exercise while preggo? Are you kidding me?!
Yesterday, I drove by 7-Eleven and saw a picture of a hot dog and literally had to force myself to keep driving instead of pulling up, running inside, smothering it in mustard and consuming it in two gulps. I don't know what's wrong with me! Oh, wait, yes I do, I'm PREGNANT and that wreaks havoc with my system. I don't usually like frankfurters at all, but right now a big, juicy dog is pretty much at the forefront of my every waking thought.
And is that so bad? I don't think so. The fact that I'm craving hot dogs is actually a good thing (c'mon, agree with me here!). It means that I don't have morning sickness, which I did during my last pregnancy. I feel like I could consume anything and everything in sight. And why shouldn't I? Pregnancy books and mother-in-law be damned. I'm going to stuff my face and feed my cravings. OK, gotta run! The Homer Simpson in me has finally won out. I'm gonna go get that hot dog!
Like I can't stop eating any and everything.....nd I'm still hungry..its like after 1 craving here comes another...how do I manage my eating??someone please help me!!
I get these crazy ideas in my head out of the blue where I SWEAR I can taste and smell the food as if it right in front of me... But my eyes are bigger than my morning sickness. Now that it is finally passing (the morning sickness) I have an urge to over eat at one sitting and make myself sick... gezz.
omg im 12 weeks and have had horrible morning day and night sickness but i have been craving hot dogs to and i absolutely hat hot dogs!!!!! But want one and scared to have one because i heard your not suppose to eat hot dogs????
I just found out that I am pregant with my first child. I have been craving ice cream and pickles. Then I also crave chicken and bok choy a lot more. I normally eat etremely healthy. I am not a big fan of hot dogs.
I've always battled with food cravings, I was anorexic through out high school and that caused a lot of health problems. Through the whole winter I was craving fresh berries and other stuff that wasn't "in season". Usually I want veggies & noodles or fruit & cereal. I'm in my last trimester and now I walk by anything & my brain says I need that now. This happens more often with cheese danishes & pies...safe to say I havent given into a danish craving in over a week. Of course on my way home this weekend I wanted to stop at an ice cream shop so I also didn't look back came right home but ate almost a whole head of cauliflower, 2 days later I still want ice cream so Im going to to the kitchen to make a low cal/fat free berry smoothie..I'm not a hot dog fan, not sure what to substitute that with but here is something I found online that might help with other cravings. http://www.naturopathywor...
I haven't been pregnant long, or at least aware of it, but so far, my cravings have been chicken strips, reeses peanut butter cups with milk, and salad. It's the strangest thing; you're doing something completely unrelated to food, and suddenly, this gigantic picture pops into your mind. You can smell it, see it, taste it. And you suddenly bug your eyes out and go, "I want that." lol, I'm thankful in a way that I was craving salad this morning, I hope that means I'll want healthy food. . .at least some of the time. XD
Somebody mentioned garlic bologna and those are both major food aversions for me, I almost got sick just reading it!lol. What I absolutely LOVE is soft pretzels with yummy cheese!
That's funny. A lady at work was telling me how much she craved hot dogs during her pregnancy. Its amazing how common it is. My craving is steak and salad. Nothing like a good ol Ribeye cooked medium well! And salad, mmm salad. Romaine lettuce, cucumber, tomato, eggs, bacon bits and italian dressing. Yum-o as Rachel Ray would say! Wash it down with a nice, crisp Mt. Dew
I just want hot dogs with regular yellow mustard. If thats all i ate i would be very happy. But of course i try to handle other foods as well but my mind keeps going back to those darn hot dogs. Funny thing i couldn't stand them before i got pregnant.
when i first got pregnant....i didn't even know i was pregnant!! and seriously i was eating some bread and butter pickles out of the jar and my hubby says "baby i would really like some ice cream since your in the kitchen could u get me some?" wow... my head instantly thought of pickles and icecream and how good it would be and i was making him a bowl and i couldn't help it...i couldn't stop it!! lol i put a pickle in my mouth and took a bite of his icecream...o my goodness it was heaven!!! i actually made me a bowl of icecream and topped it with pickles and as soon and i had consumed every last drop i looked at my husband and smiled at his very odd face...it was priceless when he finally recovered from complete shock he asked me if my snack was good and i was dumbfounded i hadnt even realized what i had just done! it hit me so fast that i couldn't stop it and he began questioning me asking if i was pregnant and in complete denial i told him no...only to find out that next weekend that i was pregnant....my food choices are interesting enough now that my hubby doesn't even ask...hahaha he just watches me eat enought for an army and smiles .....im with ya girls!!!
One other thing to remember is, you are craving certain foods for a reason. If you can figure out what you body "wants" out of said food, you may be able to find a healthier alternative. MAYBE! LOL But that's not as much fun as raiding the fridge and having a bowl of cereal, followed, very closely, by a pickle, followed by a slice of bologna. (ummm garlic bologna. my mouth is watering)
Stephanie, you can have sea food. You shouldn't eat it all day every day, but You can have some sea food. The thing to remember is, in most case (NOT ALL) a little is OK, be it that 1 Hot dog, that plate of clams or that handful of peanut butter cups. A little is OK, along with other healthy foods. And Sea Food is great for you, especially if you stay away from Ocean fish. Gulf and especially fresh water fish are Just fine. It is the higher levels of mercury and other heavy metals in the deep ocean fish that you can't have all day, every day. I think my doc said keep the tuna and other ocean down to once a week.
I'm not normally a huge fan of peanut butter AT ALL but every night before I go to bed I HAVE TO HAVE a small handful of reese's peanut butter chips straight out of the bag. yummy :)
I've been craving Peanuts, pickles, and mild hot wings from Pizza Hut...but all that stuff sounds so good..I have to be careful of everything tho' cause I'm diabetic and I know that as long as I watch what I eat I won't have to go on Insulin for this pregnancy...When I was pregnant with my son I had sugars in the 300s so I really have to be careful this time! But I still eat different tings I'm not supposed to and I enjoy every minute of it!!
actually i crave anything with a sour or tangy bite to it. mustard (with or without horseradish), hot sauce, buffalo sauce, yogurt, pickles, bleu cheese, cheddar cheese, sour patch kids, jolly ranchers. if it burns or makes me squinsh up then im all over it baby.
