Hectic Holidays

Submitted by Mrs_Fire_PC

Ah—Thanksgiving. The time for turkey and family togetherness. For us it's a question of which crazy family will we spend the holidays with this year?

I thought it was hard to balance my divorced mom and dads' sides of the family but then you throw in my husband's family too and it gets really hectic. We inevitably divide Thanksgiving and Christmas up and sometimes still don't fit everyone in. And whoever we go with it never fails to be as nutty as the pecan pie.

When I was younger I remember my Dad's side of the family meeting for a pot-luck Thanksgiving at the primitive family cabin. I mean primitive as in no running water and 'use the out-house' primitive. In later years they've held the pot-luck at my paternal grandmother's with all my screwball uncles.

Of course there's the Thanksgiving dinners at my maternal grandmother's that are a bit more civilized in a stuffy kind of way. We have place cards to know where to sit and eat a nice meal all while avoiding the elephant in the room—my 50-something year old uncle that still lives at home.

And then of course there's my husband's family. They are a big brood who at times can be reminiscent of the Osbourne's household. But, wherever we are and whichever crazy family we're with. We always seem to have a good time eating turkey and all the fixings. For it is a time to give Thanks and enjoy family togetherness after all. Dig In!

Ahhh... the question of "which family" haunts me every holiday! It's enough to drive a girl insane!

i've got my share of screwball relatives for sure. i have an aunt and uncle who don't like kids and complain about the slightest noise that they make. also my uncle stays in the basement and plays video games all day and avoids everyone. The only reason that i go there is to visit with my Grandmother (it's her house that they live in). Once she passes on i will never visit there again!

LOL! Ah, crazy relatives. I've always had my own, but inherited even more from my hubby...thus making our TGs exciting to say the least : )
