For the person who likes the name Cole... I did a search on babynames.com for it and they show the meaning to be "Victory Of The People." Just thought that I would pass that along.

Hello, again! I forgot to add my suggestion of the name Nevaeh for a girl. It is "heaven" spelled backwards! Very clever!

Hi! I agree with not asking family members their opinions in regard to your baby's name. Just remember that this will be his or her name for the rest of their lives. Make them proud of it, and make it their own, not something someone else ruined already. I also agree with simplicity and spelling like it sounds. That will make the name easier for your little one to spell in school. I like the name Nathaniel for our baby boy due in September, and if it would have been a girl, Juliet would have been her name. The only problem I am having now is that my Nanna claims that she cannot pronounce Nathaniel, and would rather we call him Jules, after her dead husband, to keep the family ties strong and give our baby's name a meaning. His nickname would probably be Nate, or Nathan. Another tip I'd like to suggest is, make sure you like the nickname of the name you choose, because that is probably what you will hear most often. Good luck!

My husband is insisting that we name the baby after his father Richard. Only problem I have with this is that's my EX-husband's name. Come on...like I really want my son to remind me of my Ex every day for the rest of my life??? sheesh

Coles a lovely name, and who knows he might show the name up to mean something other than the dark one, and be his own person rather than living up to a meaning someone else gave the name. ;)

My husband and I both are stuck with names that everyone misspells and/or mispronounces (Jaime and EaMaurio). We both think it sucks, so our goal with baby names was to keep it simple as far as spelling but still be different from all of their future classmates. Names that I liked just a year ago are out the window because there are too many babies at the daycare now with that name, or some crazy different spelling of the same name. My advice - don't torture your kid with a name that all of his/her friends will have and/or has some spelling that is not very easy to sound out.

I take advice anytime. What do you think of this name: Ethan Alejandro or Ethan Emilio? My husband is asian and I am hispanic. We are trying to have a mixture of orgins. As long as there’s a Spanish and Asian name in there, we’re happy. Our son is taking an asian last name and a Spanish middle name.

You don't have to ask family members, because they're sure to make plenty of suggestions, anyway! Asking a clerk or waiter/waitress could be tricky. They aren't supposed to risk upsetting a customer. But you might get lucky! And no matter what name you pick, you're sure to meet one person who'll totally butcher it, either spelling or pronunciation, sometimes both. Isn't it funny how we as parents agonize for months over what to name our children, only to have them invent a new spelling for it when they get older or for someone else to give them a nickname that always gets used instead? A friend gave me some really good advice about picking a name. Decide on a first and middle name you really like, then go outside and yell the complete name, including surname, 15 times. Then go inside and write the full name 15 times. Still like it? You'd better be sure, because that's what you'll be doing for the next 18 years or so!

ughhh thebestcouple- you are so right! I feel terrible because family are trying to help out, i guess but they come up with the ugliest names ever! What makes me feel the worse is that one of those family members giving the helpful advise is my 8 years old daughter...and it breaks my heart everytime i tell her that i'm not sure weather i like that name or not...and she gives me that sad puppies face. Good luck to all!
