Induce Labor by Having Sex

Creeping up on your due date and labor seems light-years away? Ask your practitioner if it's okay to try to induce labor naturally. Some midwives and doctors will recommend having sex to jumpstart early labor, as sperm contains prostaglandins, which can ripen the cervix. What's more, if you orgasm, your body releases oxytocin, the bonding hormone, which causes contractions. So while sex may not seem possible given your big ol' belly, chances are your man won't pass up the opportunity to, um, pitch in. (And no, you can't hurt the baby!) Just think: you can go from knocked up to knocked out! And the same thing that got you into pregnancy, might possibly get you into labor!

so true, for my labor i induced it by having sex. not even an hour later i was in labor. i also ate Chinese for 2 days straight, supposedly that induces you too.

with my third pregnancy i used sex to induce me to go into labor and it worked  and i plan to do it again with my fourth pregnancy only 6weeks to go

Report Abuse 		My son seems ready. we only said no to two of the questions, and he's about 22 months. We said no to "does he seem bothered by dirty diapers?" and "does he seem curious?" he doesn't seem curious now, but a few months ago he was really interested, but didn't have a lot of the other "signals" that he was ready to train.

Report Abuse 		I have asked several doctors about orgasms and pregnancy and the movements from an orgasm is completely different than that of labor and will not effect the baby in anyway, including inducing labor.

Report Abuse 		when i was pregnant with my second child i drank castor oil on the day of my due date.When i woke up the next morning my water had broke in my sleep and i gave birth to my daughter the next morning.Now im 36wks and i cant wait till i go into labor... i dont think this time im going to try anything to induce my labor.... but who knows.I might if the kicking in my ribs get any worse...lol

Report Abuse 		I had a bit of cramping while using sex to induce labor, but it never actually started. However, when I went in for an induction, the doctor discovered that I was dilated 5 cm! He was amazed I wasn't in active labor. What can I say? Some women's bodies just want to keep going. It was the same with my mom. I think I'd much rather have that problem than worrying about preterm labor.

Report Abuse 		I've heard so many different ways to start labor..drinking red zinger rasberry tea, walking, sex, getting someone to push on different pressure points in the foot and back, drinking caster oil, hmm what else, rubbing your nipples for over and hour at a time... but really I think baby will come when she wants too, but who knows

Report Abuse 		Hope this helps: I've had the "sweep" or membrane stripping, done twice.. at 39 and 40 weeks. I now am 41 weeks... for some it works; it releases hormones to begin contractions.. I had the cramping/contractions but wasn't enough to put me in labor. About sex causing labor- sperm contains prostaglandins which ripen/soften the cervix for dilation. I'm 3cm.. :P Still not enough to put me in labor!! :)

Report Abuse 		At my 33 week appointment two days ago, my doctor out of the blue says no sex without a condom because the sperm can cause labor to start. Something about the penetration of the sperm through the cervix and the makeup of the sperm. ???? I don't know what he was talking about.
