Nipple Stimulation to Induce Labor

Are you desperate for baby to arrive before your ankles turn into tree trunks? Ask your doctor about nipple stimulation to bring on labor. Some people believe it really works, especially if done for several hours straight. And while hours of nipple rubbing may not sound like a great way to spend an evening to you, your partner might disagree.

From my experiences nipple stimulation does work, but not as quickly as you would like. I have had 6 baby's and have used it to get contractions. I disagree with those who say you have to torture your nipples to produce contractions. It is a trial and error thing. Just rub or gently twist your nipples till you feel a strong contraction. I would do it every 10 mins or so thru the day till I got bored. It usually took about 3 days. I would start doing this around 37 weeks. I would say do this before 37 weeks isnt a good idea. My six baby I was so done being pregnant and I managed to get my water to break when I was supposedly 36 weeks and found out my baby was only 35 weeks. I had to have a c-section bc my contractions stopped. She ended up jaundice and being stuck in the hospital for and extra week. So pls if you do do this make sure you and your baby are ready and wait till 37 weeks.

Nipple stimulation must be done in the same way that a newborn infant would breastfeed...thumb and forefinger, "roll & tug"...(hence the painful "afterbirth" pains experienced breastfeeding, contracting the uterus back)...therefore the stimulation releases the hormone that encourages uterine contractions... It is warned that these can produce very strong contractions, and "may" stress bub with the strength, even causing a drop in heartrate, so to be done with extreme caution I believe?

I read from a pregnancy book that this could possibly do harm to your baby than good.. so you might as well check it first with your OB before doing it.

oxytocin is released when you are turned on...so really it doesn't have to be nipple stimuli...just have lots of sex...lol....there is also a hormone in sperm which can induce labor...but again only when baby is good and ready....

If it's done right, it's supposed to stimulate the production of oxytocin, which is the hormone that induces labor. From what I understand though, doing it "right" is very uncomfortable, and you have to do it for hours on end to make it work...

If this had any truth in it then I'm sure lots of women would be having babies early.

This has no proof of working. It actually stimulates orgasms and any doctor will tell you that it's nothing but a myth that orgasms will bring on labor.

This doesn't work. None of the natural methods work unless you are ready for labour anyways. don't get discouraged it will happen.
